Some of the best journeys in life begin where most people stop. Yes! Famous hill stations may have their appeal but I have always found that offbeat hill stations provide the best mountain holiday. Imagine waking up to misty valleys, walking amidst fragrant tea gardens and listening to the sound of nature. So, if this is the kind of vacation you desire to experience, then let me introduce you to some amazing offbeat hill stations in India.

India is quite lucky to have so many hill stations in this country. However, there are certain hill stations like Shimla, Manali, Mussoorie, Nainital among others that are very popular among tourists. These places do have a charm of their own but I personally feel that the appeal of these tourist spots has reduced over time. With so many people flocking these places, it is difficult to enjoy the serene beauty of nature that most people go on a mountain vacation to witness. However, India has some less commercialized hill stations and offbeat hill stations in India which are perfect for a rejuvenating holiday amidst nature, local culture and the real mountainous charm.

Moreover, it has become more important for people to go offbeat now as compared to before because of multiple reasons. People are more interested in exploring options that are exotic and provide a different kind of experience than usual. Therefore, it is not surprising that offbeat travel in India is becoming more and more popular.

Amongst all the offbeat hills stations in India, Palampur in Himachal Pradesh happens to be my favourite.

Palampur Himachal Pradesh – Most Beautiful Hidden Gem

Tucked away beautifully in the Kangra valley lies this wonderful offbeat hill station namely Palampur. It is one of the most beautiful, less commercialised places in Himachal Pradesh. Surrounded by vast tea gardens, pine forests, streams and the beautiful Dhauladhar range, this place has it all!

This gem of a hill station is absolutely perfect for those who wish to explore the true beauty of the Himalayas. Unlike other famous tourist spots, here you can just slow down, take in the beauty of your surroundings, take long walks along the tea plantations, visit monasteries and temples and most importantly relax! Being a tourist spot with loads of beauty yet less commercialized, Palampur is one of the best places to visit this summer. With pleasant weather all year round, this place is a great option for those who wish to visit hill stations in India for summer vacations and also for a quick weekend getaway during the warmer months of the year.

However, what makes Palampur so unique is the fact that it has a variety of things to offer. Nature lovers can enjoy boating and walking along the streams while adventure enthusiasts can go trekking and paragliding in the nearby Bir-Billing paragliding point. Those who are interested in exploring local culture can visit Andretta Artists’ Village, local markets and ancient temples that this place has to offer. What makes this place even more special is the fact that it has the potential to cater to all kinds of tourists. Whether it is a family vacation, a romantic weekend for couples or an adventure-seeking solo traveller, all will fall in love with this charming place.

Therefore, if you are in search of an offbeat destination with scenic valleys, mountain views, local culture and loads of tranquillity which is perfect for couples, families and solo travellers, then you must definitely consider visiting this lovely hill station in Himachal Pradesh.

Other Hidden Gems in India That Are Worth Exploring

Although Palampur is one of my favourite places in India, there are several other such destinations which I feel are worth exploring.

  • Tirthan Valley in Himachal Pradesh is famous for its clean rivers, beautiful treks and Great Himalayan National Park.
  • Similarly, Chaukori in Uttarakhand is well-known for its Himalayan views, tea gardens and beautiful nature walks suitable for all.
  • Ziro Valley in Arunachal Pradesh is famous for its local tribal cultural heritage, scenic beauty and mountain charm.
  • Yercaud in Tamil Nadu is one of the most famous family-friendly offbeat hill stations in South India offering great scenic views, pleasant weather and beautiful coffee plantations.

All these places are amazing but I personally feel that there is no place as spectacular as Palampur in Himachal Pradesh.

Why Are People Preferring Hidden Destinations?

Nowadays people are opting for a trip to hill stations in India that are less crowded. Besides being picturesque, these places offer a clean environment, calm atmosphere and loads of opportunities to explore the local culture. Similarly, going on an offbeat travel adventure allows people to spend quality time interacting with locals and getting an insight into their lifestyle. It also lets you explore more of the destination as you are not hurrying to catch a flight or bus back home.

Moreover, if you are someone who loves photography, adventure travel, trekking holidays, solo travel or photography trips, then opting for some of the amazing hidden Himalayan destinations would give you a great opportunity to experience the real mountainous beauty of India!
